Fun Facts

  • First graduating class from EVHS was 1960
  • Alumni dancers and cheerleaders who have been or are currently on collegiate teams:  Jaime Macias - UNC Bears; Amy Macias- CMU Mavettes; Abril Arenales - MSU Dance Team.
  • Softball was started at EVHS in 2000.
  • Red was added as an accent color to the black and white school colors in 1985
  • 3 EVHS alumni became pilots after participating in Dave Scott's flight simulator program.
  • EVHS has had one Division 1 Basketball player, (Valparaiso University)  1999-2002,   2000 & 2002 NCAA Tournaments. - Dr. Jon Kedrowski
  • In the 1990's EVHS had an in house daycare for teen moms.
  • EVHS is 1 of 3 high schools in the US given permission by Harvey Comics to use Hot Stuff as their mascot.   He is the mascot for Dysart High School located in El Mirage, Arizona, Eagle Valley High School in Gypsum, Colorado, and Lindhurst High School in Olivehurst, California, and  In the '90s, Ivan Kershner, then principal, contacted Harvey Comics and paid $1 to "lease" the right to use the Hotstuff character.  Changing the mascot to the "Rainbows" was just a bad rumor that usually surfaces each time there is a new principal.
  • We are the only high school in Colorado that has a Devil as our mascot.  
  • EVHS has had a Kentucky Derby winning jockey - Pat Day
  • EVHS has had an oscar award winning technical director - Tony Mitzelfelt
  • EVHS has had  a student that has been to the top of Mount Everest (Sagarmatha) 3 times 2012, 2019, 2021- Dr. Jon Kedrowski
  • Former EVHS graduate (Zak Thrall) in concert, living life to the fullest and demonstrating what a well rounded type of person looks like. Zak is still a weightroom record holder who played 5 years of D1 college football (Northern Colorado)  and is now heading on tour in Europe to play banjo in his band “Shovelin Stone”. 
  • There have been 5 Boettcher Scholarships awarded at EVHS.  Three of them were in the 1970's, one in the 1990's and the most current one 2022.
  • There were 8 houses built by the Building Trades class under the tutelageof Gary Hollandsworth.  These were used as employee housing. 
  • EVHS alumni, Jamie Rindy won an Emmy for a documentary she worked on with CNN (2022).
  • Member of the class of 2023 Sean Asselin was a national finalist in Congressional Debate at the National Speech and Debate tournament. Making history as the school's first national finalist in Speech and Debate. He placed sixteenth in the country.

Construction Stuff (since 1990)

1991-92        - Rebuilt the middle of EVHS and added a 2nd floor to the building.  Saved the north wing of the old building and it was used as storage and later reused as classrooms.
1996-97        - Added new varsity locker rooms on the east side of the Dave and Susan Scott gym and wrestling room.  These lockers are now the visitor locker rooms.
1999-2000    - Tore down north pod, added the two story north wing and added the west side of the 2nd floor
2008-2010    -  Added cafeteria, new gym, and tech wing. Remodeled science wing and office area
2018-19        - Tore down old science wing and greenhouse.  Added south part of building and remodeled office to add more offices.  Added new varsity locker rooms, training room.  Converted the old visitor locker rooms to SPED rooms with kitchen, classroom  and physical therapy rooms.

  • There have only been 2.5 different office managers in the last 50 years at EVHS. -   G. Eaton and S. Nolan job shared for a couple of years and  L. Hatton.
  • EVHS has employees that have come from every school in the district  EXCEPT Red Sandstone Elementary and June Creek Elementary as of 20-21.
