Palisade 1-13-07
The Devils wrestled at the Palisade Invitational on Saturday, January 13th and had three medalists at this extremely tough tournament. The tourney featured some of the state’s best wrestlers in all classifications.
Grand Junction won the event and should be a contender for the 5A state title while Paonia took second place. They are ranked number one in 2A.
Individually, Brendan Best placed first, beating opponents from Hotchkiss, Denver East and Grand Junction. It was Best’s fourth title this season. James Harvey placed second, falling to Cortez Panther, Justin Samora. Harvey beat wrestlers from Palisade and Denver East to make it to the championship match. Chad Strakbein placed fourth. Both of his losses came to a Denver East opponent. Josh Wamboldt was the only other Eagle Valley wrestler to win a match at the tournament.
The Devils wrestle Thursday, January 18th at Palisade in duals against the Steamboat Sailors and the Bulldogs of Palisade. On Saturday the 20th, the boys head to Leadville for the Lake County Invitational Tournament.
