EVHS Tournament

The Devils hosted their own tournament on Saturday, January 6th and had their best team performance of the season.

The Devils placed third as a team and had 4 wrestlers in the finals.

Josh Wamboldt placed 3rd at 103 pounds. He pinned his Summit High School opponent in final match of the day in 38 seconds. Chad Strakbein placed 5th while Colt Ewing took 6th place in the same bracket. At 119 pounds Joey Bajza placed 5th and teammate Chris Hing placed 6th. Manuel Carrasco had a bye and a win at 125 pounds to reach the finals where he was pinned by Buena Vista's Zeke Farber to take 2nd place. Farber is a highly ranked 3A wrestler.

James Harvey continued his winning (and pinning) ways as he breezed through the 130 pound bracket. He pinned all three of his opponents in a total time of 2:23. He took first place and also won the most pins in least amount of time plaque. At 135 pounds Trent Book placed 2nd. Book was 2-1 for the day. Brendan Best won his 3rd tournament of the season at 189 pounds. Best also pinned all three of his opponents on Saturday and was voted the outstanding wrestler of the upper weights.

C.J. Duty, Dwayne Noriega, and Kieran Hurtt wrestled for the Devils but did not place.

The Devils travel to Palisade on Saturday, January 13th to wrestle in the very tough Bulldog Invitational. The wrestlers will face the best 5A and 3A competition that the Western Slope has to offer.
